A version of the Tony Awards for high school theater programs, The 5th Avenue Awards allow musical theater students from across Washington state to meet, celebrate, and honor the exceptional musical theater productions presented during the 2012/13 school year. These awards are designed to shine the spotlight on high school musical theater programs, offering performing arts students the kind of support and recognition that accomplished high school athletes have received for decades. Like the film, it is a highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian Legend, but it differs from the film in many ways. The original 2005 Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols with Eric Idle writing the musical's book and lyrics, won three Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical of the 2004-05 season and received 14 Tony Award nominations. 2Cents Theatre Group Announces Plans to Benefit HIV/AIDS Organizations With RENT
(5/21 at 7:43 PM) - 2Cents Theatre Group has announced that its production of Rent, Jonathan Larson's legendary Broadway smash hit that is now celebrating its 20th anniversary, will benefit four different HIV/AIDS research and support organizations during its run. Beginning on May 30, a percentage of each weekend's gross sales will be donated to AIDS Project Los Angeles, AIDS Research Alliance, Being Alive, and Alliance for Housing and Healing. ArtPlace America Donates $350K to Miami's Adrienne Arsht Center and O Cinema
(5/21 at 7:12 PM) - ArtPlace America, one of the nation's largest organizations committed to creative place-making, is investing $350,000 in new grant dollars for culturally-based development and programming in Miami's urban core. The Adrienne Arsht Center has been awarded a $250,000 grant to establish an Office of Neighborhood Development in association with the Town Square Neighborhood Development Corporation (TSNDC), making it one of the first performing arts centers in the country to have an office dedicated to the development of its surrounding community. O Cinema, Miami's premiere venue for independent, foreign, and art films, has been awarded $100,000 for the development of Cine Al Fresco, a sustainable green space and outdoor theater in Wynwood.
