San Francisco Opera presents free screenings of its latest "Opera-in-an-Hour" movie, The Barber of Seville for Families, at 11am, 1pm and 3pm on both Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 2015 at The Children's Creativity Museum in San Francisco. A perfect introduction to opera, the captivating music of this ever-popular work will delight children and audiences of all ages. The screenings are recommended for ages 5 and above and are preceded by a 15 minute live introduction.

The Barber of Seville for Families features an engaging young cast of singers including mezzo-soprano Laura Krumm (Rosina), tenor Matthew Grills (Count Almaviva), baritone Joo Won Kang (Figaro), bass-baritone Philippe Sly (Doctor Bartolo), baritone Hadleigh Adams (an Officer), soprano Marina Harris (Berta) and baritone Ao Li (Don Basilio), with the San Francisco Opera and Chorus led by Company Resident Conductor Giuseppe Finzi. This San Francisco Opera production of Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville, adapted especially for families, was originally presented at the War Memorial Opera House in November 2013 and is sung in English with English subtitles.

In this charming opera, the dashing Count Almaviva and strong-willed Rosina fall in love. But Rosina's guardian, the insufferable Doctor Bartolo, wants to marry her himself. So, Count Almaviva enlists the help of Figaro, Seville's famous barber and jack-of-all-trades. With a series of disguises and tricks, they fool Doctor Barolo and love triumphs over all!

This movie is a great way for audiences young and old to learn about the magic of opera. The production is sung in English with English subtitles and is preceded by a 15 minute introduction (total running time is 75 minutes). Recommended for ages 5 and up.

ADMISSION: The screenings are free, but attendees are encouraged to register in advance. Families who register in advance can enter the theater via an express line during the event.
