Mother Road Theatre Company Sets 'Love Wins' Season

Mother Road Theatre Company announces its 8th season illustrating its commitment to enrich the Albuquerque community with professional works and programs that tell stories, promote literacy, enliven our artists and audiences and electrify the New Mexico landscape.

The 2015-16 season will open with Enchanted April by Matthew Barber. This piece will be the first in their new residency in the Keshet Center for the Arts. William R. Stafford, Mother Road's managing director will direct.

Next up will be a co-production with the Vortex Theatre: All is Calm, The Christmas Truce of 1914. The production features a cast of a cappella singers and will be directed by Mother Road artistic director Julia Thudium and music directed by Lina Ramos. All performances will be held at the Vortex Theatre.

Starting the 2016 year will be the two person piece Chapatti by Christian O'Reilly featuring two Albuquerque favorites Peter Kierst and Joanne Camp.

Finally, the season will end with a highly anticipated founders piece. It will feature MRTC Founders Vic Browder, Kristín Hansen, Tom Schuch and Julia Thudium onstage together for the first time in MRTC history! The production is titled The Quality of Life and will be directed by former company member David Sinkus.

When two frustrated London housewives decide to rent a villa in Italy for a holiday away from their bleak marriages, they recruit two very different English women to share the cost and the experience. There, among the wisteria blossoms and Mediterranean sunshine, all four bloom again-rediscovering themselves in ways that they-and we-could never have expected.

Romance is a distant memory for two lonely animal-lovers living in Dublin. When forlorn Dan and his dog Chapatti cross paths with the amiable Betty and her nineteen cats, an unexpected spark begins a warm and gentle story about two people re-discovering the importance of human companionship. This play will feature Peter Kierst and Joanne Camp.

"It turns out that true love knows no bounds, family roots run true and there are a few things red wine and a bong hit won't fix. Jeanette and Neil live off the land in a yurt on the site of their Northern California home, recently destroyed by a massive fire. Neil is dying. Jeannette's long lost cousin and her husband are coming from the Midwest for a visit after losing their daughter. In a love story and comedic drama that plumbs societal, religious and ethical divides, the couples explore their respective life perspectives with finesse, humor honesty and respect.
