Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions of Kingston, ON is currently underway on its 30th production, the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical A CHORUS LINE - but the crew and creatives have a slight twist up their sleeves.

In their production, the iconic role of 'Cassie,' portrayed by the beloved Donna McKechnie in the original Broadway run, is currently being played by a male actor, Hunter Agnew, with the name switched to 'Casey.'

Agnew recently posted on his Facebook page:

"Casey; An experienced performer with exuding talent, out of work and clinging onto the only thing he has left, dance. In his desperation he comes back to New York to start over, revisits his unsettled past and takes a chance in efforts to do what he loves. "I don't want to wait on tables. And what I really don't want to do is to teach other people what I should be doing myself!" - Come see @bluecanoepro production of A Chorus Line at The Grand Theatre. July 22nd - 27th, 2015. #‎joinourline"

The role of 'Cassie' was also played by a male in the Goteborg Opera of Sweden's 2006 production, though swapping the gender of such a well-known role is rarely undertaken.

Per press notes, "A Chorus Line takes you into the lives of 17 hopeful performers auditioning for a director who is looking to cast an all chorus show."

Blue Canoe's A CHORUS LINE kicked off performances last night at The Grand Theatre, Wednesday July 22, where it will run through this Sunday, July 26.
