July was an interesting month for AMP. The debut of the Music at The Downs series was a great success, with many new people discovering the fun of seeing an outdoor concert on the infield of the track. And you couldn't ask for a better show to start with than Michael Franti's groove-heavy Soulshine tour. AMP will be back again on August 5 with the next show in the series - Ray LaMontagne. Check out their brand new website for people to find out info about shows at The Downs - www.musicatthedowns.org.

Also in August is AMP's near-annual visit from the remarkable husband/wife duo Over the Rhine. They are touring behind their new double CD Meet Me At The End Of The World, which is chock full of the kind of moving, passionate songwriting we all expect from Over the Rhine.

August also welcomes a landmark anniversary - AMP's 100th Library show. Since debuting on September 9, 2009 (9/9/9!) with Australian singer Wendy Rule, AMP has hosted regular events at libraries all over the county with a diverse range of artists ranging from Native American to Breton, from the modern string stylings of the Portland Cello Project to the whimsical playfulness of Jeez LaWeez. AMP has featured local performers, artists from around the world and even a bit of theater. Over 7500 people have attended these free shows, which provide a great opportunity for people to see diverse, challenging and fun programs in their own neighborhoods.

Our 100th show will be one of AMP's regular and best attended library events - the ever popular Mala Maña performing on the lawn at the Ernie Pyle Library on August 9 at noon. Gauchito Argentinian Grill will be on hand to provide yummy lunchtime options. Thanks to the ABC Library and the Friends of the Public Library for the ongoing support of this series since AMP brought the idea to them in 2009.

"There may be no more soothing voice in music than Karin Bergquist's," observed Entertainment Weekly. Native Ohioans Linford Detweiler and Bergquist launched Over the Rhine in 1989, naming the ensemble after the historic, bohemian Cincinnati neighborhood where they lived and first wrote and recorded together. Over the past 25 years, OtR has continued to build a musically and emotionally potent catalogue. Their latest release, "Meet Me at the Edge of the World," explores challenging new musical territory while featuring some of the duo's most compelling songs and performances to date.

A classically trained vocalist and deft multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin and harmonica), she dodges musical pigeonholes alongside legendary producer Lloyd Maines (guitar, dobro, pedal steel), by weaving folk, pop, country, blues and swinging jazz into an eclectic style all her own.
