Charlot D. Malin Elected President of San Francisco Opera Guild

At this month's annual meeting of the San Francisco Opera Guild, Charlot D. Malin, a prominent and successful business owner, residential designer, philanthropist and civic leader, was unanimously elected president of the renowned non-profit organization for a two year term. A native of Oslo, Norway, Malin succeeds Karen Kubin, one of the nation's top women litigators, who stepped down after a notable 24-month tenure.

Malin will oversee an executive committee of a dozen officers, 150 active, provisional and associate directors and 800 chapter members in addition to a small professional staff dedicated to providing award winning and innovative education programs to more than 50,000 students annually throughout the Bay Area, as well as presenting informative lectures and panel discussions with artists about San Francisco Opera's repertory season. With Charlot Malin at the helm, officers are responsible for the fiscal management of San Francisco Opera Guild's $2.5 million annual budget for the extensive student and adult education programs along with a variety of fundraising and special events, including the annual Opera Ball. As president of the Opera Guild, Malin will serve on the San Francisco Opera Association Board of Directors, Keith Geeslin, president and John Gunn, chairman.

Charlot Malin commented: "I have always held a strong belief that the San Francisco Opera Guild is important in our community as a producer of excellent opera and classical music education programs for Bay Area students and teachers, and as an advocate of the operatic art form specifically the outstanding performances presented by San Francisco Opera at the War Memorial Opera House. Together with my colleagues on the Guild board and administration, I am committed to these mission-critical goals and to producing exceptional fundraising events to support our activities. Charlot Malin is the chief operating officer and the director of design of San Francisco-based Troon Pacific, a residential developer known for its efforts in sustainable design. Malin is an accomplished designer known for her originality and creativity. Her interior design projects include LEED Platinum luxury residences, wineries in the Napa/Sonoma area, the 464 Prospect Luxury development in La Jolla, and George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch Sound Studios.

Since 1994, Malin has been active with San Francisco Opera and has held numerous leadership positions with San Francisco Opera Guild, including serving as Opera Ball co-chair with colleague Mary Poland. Charlot Malin is also the chairman of San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's (SFMOMA) Artist Circle and serves on the board of directors for the Voss Foundation, the Norwegian-American Cultural Foundation, and the Norway House Foundation. Malin resides in San Francisco with her husband and children.
