Windy City Productions to Stage AUNT LAKIE'S NOT COMING TO DINNER in 2015

Windy City Productions will stage the premiere of Susan Rabin's Aunt Lakie's Not Coming to Dinner at the Phoenix Theatre, 414 Mason Street in San Francisco, January 30 - February 14, 2014. The show is directed by Jim McCunn.

Story: Playwright Susan Rabin serves up a savory little stew in her sharply crafted dramedy, Aunt Lakie's Not Coming to Dinner. Sisters Claire and Iris, two "women of a certain age," live by themselves in the family home in suburban Chicago. Claire, solid and dependable, is the caregiver for her free-spirited older sister Iris. A family tragedy triggers a confrontation between the sisters, which is further inflamed by an unusual Mailman whom Iris befriends. Iris rebels against her sister's control and handles past hurts with sarcasm and outrageous antics. Egged on by the Mailman, the sisters exchange shocking family secrets that have been buried for decades. Rabin has created three compelling characters in a comedy that moves them into darker places.

Playwright and actress Susan Rabin grew up in Chicago, and much of her writing draws upon that city's climate and colorful characters, including her own quirky relatives. She earned B.S. and M.A. degrees from Northwestern University, and worked as a television producer and drama teacher. Later, she became an entertainment lawyer and practiced in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Rabin's first play, Rainbow, a full-length musical, had a six-week sold-out run at the Mill Valley Center (CA) for Performing Arts. She received an award for her second full-length play, Jive, from the Marin Arts Council. Rabin creates characters who reach for dreams through gambling, plastic surgery, popular television culture, and fantastic schemes.

As a singer, Susan Rabin has recorded and toured internationally with "Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks." She currently performs in the long-running musical revue, Foodies - The Musical, at San Francisco's Shelton Theatre.
