Back for another round of knock-out collaborations, Vancouver's hottest music and dance series celebrates its third iteration of delightfully unexpected performances; MovEnt presents Small Stage point 5 - the valentine's edition (cheeky kid sister to Dances for a Small Stage) at retro-glam Vancouver locale The Emerald, this weekend, February 12 - 15, 2015 at 8pm. With a winning formula that pairs five illustrious local musicians with five renowned Vancouver dancers, this Valentine's-themed evening will feature an exciting line-up of diverse artistic styles, to include both new artists and returning favourites.
"Small Stage point 5 is all about experimentation, pairing creative minds from the realms of music and dance - two genres that fit together so seamlessly - to see what type of wild, inventive creations can develop," explains MovEnt Artistic Producer Julie-anne Saroyan. "For this Valentine's Day edition, we've assembled our most diverse line-up yet - artists who are masters of their trade, who are furthering the evolution of their respective styles. We can't wait to see what the resulting creations will entail." Emceed by Billy Marchenski as the comically inappropriate "Cupid," Small Stage point 5 - the valentine's edition will feature artistic styles including burlesque, Indian and Chinese dance, waaking, contemporary, Asian-infused electronica, singer-songwriter, rock, and pop. These eclectic pairs have only a few weeks to team up to create an original, imaginative five to seven minute work. Musician, mover pairings include:?This performance will once again be staged in The Emerald's main dining area, a 172-seat restaurant, cabaret room, lounge, and bar on Gore Street. Decked out in ornate crystal chandeliers and mid-century furnishings, this Vancouver setting evokes the spirit of old Las Vegas, including a dash of "anything goes" attitude.
