DIVAfest presents HILARITY, a new play by Allison Page, directed by Claire Rice at the EXIT Studio, 156 Eddy St, SF. The show runs March 5 - March 28, 2015

HILARITY is a new play about a girl named Cyd. She's not so nice. She's not so sober. She's not so happy. But she is funny. Cyd is a comic on the edge of destruction. Liz is the only person keeping her from pickling herself to death. She has an agent who's afraid of confrontation. She has a mother who likes men on motorcycles. She has a mattress in the middle of the room, and that's it. Maybe she'll turn it all around, or maybe her drunken lies, hungover manipulations and impulsive violence will finally bury her. What does it matter how good you are at something, if you don't know how to be a person?

DIVAfest has been awarded grants by both the TBA Cash panel and the Dramatist Guild to produce this exciting new work by one of San Francisco's favorite performers!

Begun in 2002 as a response to the lack of opportunities for female playwrights in the larger theater industry, DIVAfest has since produced over 60 new plays by women. In 2014 DIVAfest evolved from being an annual EXIT Theatre festival into an independent, year-long producing organization. Throughout the year, DIVAfest supports new and developing work with co-productions, bi-monthly work-shopping opportunities at DIVAs Tell All, and DIVA or Die Burlesque, a monthly revue. While we continue to expand our scope and diversify our impact, at the core, DIVAfest remains a celebration of female power and creativity, encouraging female artists, allies, and audiences to broaden their horizons and exceed boundaries.
