Reduced Shakespeare to Perform COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED) at MTC, 11/28-12/21

Crowded Fire Theater's 2014 Matchbox Readings to Run 12/1-9

(10/31 at 2:51 PM) - Crowded Fire Theater (CFT) announces the four featured playwrights and plays for the 2014 Matchbox Readings Series, public staged readings of plays in development. New plays by playwrights Geetha Reddy, Andrew Saito, MJ Kaufman, and Eugenie Chan in readings from December 1-9, 2014 at the Thick House Theater. Crowded Fire champions playwrights whose work offers a vital contribution to the American theater landscape with a commitment to diversifying the canon of contemporary plays. 'We believe art is always political,' says Crowded Fire Artistic Director Marissa Wolf, 'and that in order to move toward a more just society, theaters must offer a wider range of aesthetics and voices on our stages.' The Matchbox: Commissioning and Developing New Plays grew out of CFT's need to bolster playwrights' revision processes in order to strengthen the scripts before rehearsals for the professional productions began. We Players Present Site-Specific RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER, Beginning Tonight

(10/31 at 12:30 AM) - We Players presents an intimate sailing performance of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner aboard the historic scow schooner Alma this fall. This site-integrated production is produced in partnership with San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park with whom We Players has a five-year cooperative agreement - the first partnership of its kind in the nation. In collaboration with National Park Service sailors and rangers, the performance will culminate with conversation inspired by the themes of the poem, immediately following each performance. We Players brings the language of Coleridge's classic work to life through movement, music, and site-integration with historic vessel, Alma. A.C.T. Opens Colm Toibin's TESTAMENT Tonight

(10/29 at 12:30 AM) - American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) continues its 2014-15 season with Colm Toibin's fiercely lyrical solo play, Testament. Originally staged at the Dublin Theatre Festival in 2011-and retitled for Broadway in 2013 as The Testament of Mary-Testament is an incisive, vivid, and deeply human work that recounts in riveting detail a defiant mother's story of her son, who has been taken from her by men she regards as fanatics. Directed by A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff and starring Canadian leading actor, Seana McKenna (last seen in A.C.T.'s production of Napoli!), Testament has been hailed as 'beautiful and daring' by the New York Times and was a 2013 Tony Award nominee for Best New Play. THE DANCE THAT DOCUMENTS ITSELF to Premiere at CounterPulse, 12/4

(10/28 at 5:33 PM) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA - OCTOBER 28, 2014 --Taking on Selfie Culture, Jess Curtis/Gravity will once again challenge and expand conceptions of performance and social context with a new production that combines performing bodies, online social networking, and video projection in an examination of the effects of the intertwining of digital and embodied experience. A dance of process, community, memory, and resistance, The Dance That Documents Itself uses social networking and digital media to examine the effects of those very technologies (and the socio-economic conditions they spawn in communities) on dancing bodies, and to expose the threads of human interaction that come together to become a live dance performance. The Dance That Documents Itself features 4 dancers and incorporates live-feed and recorded video with live and recorded music to dynamically explore how technologies affect our lives, dancing bodies, the creative process, and the communities that we live in. Crowded Fire Theater's Artistic Director Marissa Wolf to Step Down

After six seasons at its helm, Marissa Wolf will be leaving the position of Artistic Director at the end of Crowded Fire's 2014 Season.
